the dust has settled but jiuqing, understandably, has not yet asked the residents about refraction. there may not be a need to - the whole situation with malik explained what that word means in the context of the prism pretty well.
the whole situation with malik is also why she's in the medbay, on a cot, reading a medical textbook. her neck has been bandaged properly with gauze and bandages, and she'd be good to get up and walk around except for the fact that the fight with malik has her drained and exhausted.
she looks up from the book when she hears footsteps.]
...it wasn't what I expected, either. I'm - very grateful, that Percy was able to be saved. But... I wish there was something more we had been able to do for Malik.
I suppose it is as Steel said. He simply did not have much time. Mayhap if we had known last night and had the capability to cleanse him, more could have been done, or if he had lasted into the coming week...
Mayhap it was. I do not know if it was enough to act on, not knowing him particularly well, but if there was aught to be done-- it may not have been too late just yet.
[he's frowning, hands folded in his lap.]
I wonder whether what was done with Percy-- accelerated it, somehow. Curing one, somehow prompting the other to grow worse.
[yeah there is a reason he's not admitting this to percy.]
As do I. Sacrificing one to save another would be a difficult trade to make knowingly.
[he exhales slowly, though, shakes his head.]
'Tis only one among several explanations, however. I would not be surprised were he predisposed to this refraction running its course swiftly; we shall simply have to see what else we may learn.
Relatedly, if there is aught you have learned which you believe needs to be told to others, particularly if you would prefer your name not be attached... you've only to let me know. I shall most likely use my ability this week to warn others off simply killing those they believe may be afflicted, otherwise.
I think our interests would be best served with your intended message, Emet-Selch. Likewise, however... I believe I cannot pick you because I already suggested you, once, although someone else received it... if there is anyone you think would inform either one of us of a "special delivery," I will consider attempting to send it to them.
It seems the more recent ones have not been quite as straightforward as the first.
Do you know what the results were, then, of the more recent ones? It seems little is straightforward with our particular abilities; working with dreams, especially, appears to often have unintended effects. I attempted to give someone a calming enough dream and was later told the sunset had... eyes and teeth.
[as for who... hmm.]
Who have you already chosen, if you believe you may not suggest one twice?
The more recent ones... no, I'm not sure. No one has mentioned any kind of delivery to me.
[she's been trying... maybe some week she will just pretend to have gotten one so she can ask around about it.]
The first week, I suggested you, Miss Hot Pants, and Miss Rose. The second, I suggested Sir Chang... [...] ...9S, and Vanille. And this week, I suggested Percy... Miss Hiyama, and Estinien.
Well, if it went to Estinien, I can tell you I certainly would have no knowledge.
[huffs. there's a distaste, there, in his tone.]
I've spoken with Kashuu of both forms of dream, before, and used him this week to test whether one may receive each at separate times. He may grow suspicious, if this continues to happen to him, but he's spoken of his experiences with me readily enough and belongs to your color as well. Vax'ildan, I believe would say something of it. Meteion also seems unlikely to hide it... Clarte will hide it, but I think they will make mention of it if sufficiently prompted or if it is relevant. Nogiku was less forthcoming with her dream, as well. Yasusada may not be a bad choice-- a few leading questions ought to do it. I would include Vin on your list as well, and possibly Atsushi, as he has offered up information quite readily in the past.
If you have not-- my first step would be theorizing with your targets, a bit, about the various messages and marks others have received. It may prompt them to mention anything odd sent to them as well.
He agreed to meet me for tea this week... I had hoped that I might be able to prompt him to mention it, but we got a little distracted by, well...
[memshares...]
Yes, I've talked about it a little with them - that's how I was able to get Miss Hot Pants to tell me about the greenhouse. But some have been a little less forthcoming than I expected, or... perhaps the timing of my questions was off. They might not have received it yet when I asked.
[she taps her chin, her expression thoughtful.]
I usually discuss it a little with Riff. Once I've made a choice, I'll let you know. Two sets of ears will serve us better than one.
It is possible. We may wish to wait until nearer the end of the week, before we truly begin to pry...
[hmm. it's something to consider.]
I will let you know as well. I think November could require something of a direct warning, but the other, I've yet to determine.
[us @ november like do NOT kill our percy.]
Ah, but speaking of these marks-- I have wondered. You've noticed as well, haven't you, that metallics are the only ones who have received the less threatening pig tattoos?
[the math i have been trying to do on these PIGS BRITT.]
[well, she already helped kill malik today. what's one more? especially if it's to protect someone she cares about? getting her hands dirty directly isn't really her style, but...
[...percy probably wouldn't like it, if she came up as a culprit at another trial, especially after he'd narrowly escaped death himself.
but then, at least he would still be around to dislike it.
she takes a breath, though. this isn't the time for her to let her emotions run away from her. they have things they need to figure out.]
Yes... but, truthfully, I really don't understand why that is. Remind me - the other types of pig tattoos, were they spread over multiple different colors, or just one other set?
...I believe he can see reason. He has offered information to the apartment before, he is working with us on at least some level. It is a matter of ensuring he knows it is a poor move to make.
[please no murdering we already have the people who refract.]
The others were two crystallines and one sunrise, though Ruby's is still an odd case. She claimed to have her dream the same week as Kashuu, but did not mention it until the next week, when the tattoo appeared which matched Bubblegum and November's. No others have said the two were separate. So, unless this occurs again, then her case is an outlier or she was confused. As far as I know, only two types exist: the face and the one with a gun.
It would be best if he could be convinced of that.
[november... don't do it... don't u dare.]
Ah, that's right... I had wondered if, perhaps, the type of pig was dependent on the primary color of the person who received the tattoo, but if Miss Roses's matched theirs, that can't be the case.
week three, sunday

Emet-Selch. [she smiles faintly] Hello.
no subject
[he frowns down at her, looking her over, inspecting her to make sure she seems all right.]
You are well enough, I trust, after...?
[rainbow baphomet jesus fuck.]
no subject
Yes.
[she brings a hand up to her throat and brushes her fingertips over the bandage.]
It still hurts a little, but I'll use the pod again early next week, and keep the wound clean in the meantime.
no subject
[he's quiet for a moment, just finding somewhere to settle in.]
...none of that was quite how I expected things to proceed.
no subject
[she promises!!]
...it wasn't what I expected, either. I'm - very grateful, that Percy was able to be saved. But... I wish there was something more we had been able to do for Malik.

[but as it is... it was just too fast.]
no subject
[she fiddles with the hem of her sleeve.]
Was that meant to be a sign, do you think?
no subject
[he's frowning, hands folded in his lap.]
I wonder whether what was done with Percy-- accelerated it, somehow. Curing one, somehow prompting the other to grow worse.

[hmm.]
Whatever caused the refractions demanding blood in some form or another, you mean?
